It is easy when times are good to believe that when it comes down to it you will always have options available to you. However, we are perhaps naïvely believing this to be the case. If we were ever in a position where we had to say to ourselves I need 5000 dollars fast then it is likely that the available options would seem to be very narrow indeed. In fact, if we were in that situation it may well be that we saw no options at all. So the question is if we do need a fast $5000 loan what options would we really have?

The good news is, that if we maintain good relationships with our bank, then they are perfectly able and quite probably very likely to support us in our times of need. If they can look back at a number of years of good banking behaviour then they are far more likely to be in a position to lend you money at short notice and on decent terms if you so need it, even if you do not at that point have a job. The message here of course is that you should try very hard when you’re not in a desperate position to make sure that your banking behaviour is exemplary, you never know when you might need to rely upon it.
